A Look Behind the Scenes at Liberty Hill School of Music
Ever wonder what goes into creating a welcoming, enriching music education experience? At Liberty Hill School of Music, what happens behind the scenes is just as important as what you see in lessons and performances.
Our goal is simple: to give every student, from beginners to advanced musicians, a place to feel confident, creative, and supported as they grow.
It Starts With Our Teachers
Every lesson at LHSM is led by a dedicated, passionate instructor who’s carefully chosen not just for their talent, but for their ability to teach with heart. Our team regularly shares ideas, resources, and strategies that help us better connect with and guide our students. Many of our instructors are also active performers, lifelong learners, and music lovers who genuinely care about their students’ progress.
Behind the Scheduling
We work hard to create schedules that work for busy families, while making sure each student is placed with the right teacher and in the right setting—whether that’s private lessons, group classes, or a combination of both.
What Goes Into a Lesson
Every lesson is thoughtfully planned. Instructors choose method books, repertoire, and supplemental materials tailored to each student’s age, skill level, and goals.
Lessons often include:
Warm-ups and technique building
Song learning (including student-requested pieces!)
Theory and ear training
Performance prep and practice guidance
We believe learning should be engaging and personal, so our teachers adapt in real-time to student needs, whether it’s a more playful approach for a young beginner, or diving deeper into theory with a motivated teen.
Ongoing Communication
We know that staying connected with families is key to a successful learning experience. While not every instructor communicates in the exact same way, most will offer quick check-ins at the beginning or end of lessons to share highlights, challenges, or tips for at-home practice.
Some teachers also provide written notes or progress updates, depending on their teaching style and the needs of each student. If you ever have questions or want to know more about how your child is doing, we always welcome the conversation—just ask!
In addition to individual lesson communication, we keep families informed about studio-wide happenings, including upcoming recitals, performance opportunities, and local community events. Whether it's a reminder about a big concert or an invitation to support your young musician on stage, we want you to feel informed and involved every step of the way.
Beyond the Classroom
We love watching our students shine on stage! Recitals and community performances are a big part of our program, but our support doesn’t stop there.
We also work closely with middle school and high school students who are involved in their school music programs, offering help with district, region, area, state band & choir audition materials, prep, ensemble music, and additional guidance to complement what they’re learning at school. Whether it’s percussion, band, or choir, we’re here to help students feel confident and prepared.
And when motivation dips or a tough passage needs extra practice, our instructors are there with encouragement, problem-solving strategies, and the reassurance that progress takes time, and heart.
Our Why
At the heart of it all, Liberty Hill School of Music is about people, not perfection. We’re here to build confidence, foster creativity, and help students grow in a way that feels joyful and rewarding.
So the next time you walk into a lesson, know that there’s a whole team of people behind the scenes rooting for you (or your child) every step of the way.
Thanks for taking a peek behind the curtain. We’re proud of what we do, and even prouder of the students and families who make this place feel like home.
With music and gratitude,
Stacey Gomez
